Design Brief
Hedgehog requested Blond’s expertise to design their plug-and-play VPN that protects all your smart home devices.
Research
During our research in the market, we realized that most of the routers and other protection devices stick out. So our first challenge was to come up with a design that belongs in everyone’s home and generates an emotional attachment.
Concepts
Coming up with concepts, we tied them with stories that would bring an emotional connection to the object and integrate them into homes. After validating the technical package, our mission was to ideate and create concepts integrating our unique identities and stories.
Inspiration
It was really important for us to translate our inspirational story through the design of Hedgehog, taking queues from soft yet purposeful shapes.
Story
We wanted the name and purpose of the object reflected in the design language. Due to this, Hedgehog is small, cute and friendly.
Story
However, it has sharp defensive edges, a subtle reference to the spikes of a Hedgehog, which are used to defend against attacks.
Awards
Hedgehog was awarded a Reddot design award and a European product design award in 2021 and was also received an honorable mention at the 2020 IDA design award.
